Architectural Musings: February 27

This week was February school vacation for many of us with kids and the weather was bananas - a high of 70 degrees one day, followed by another weekend of heavy snowfall (ugh, classic New England). I am not sure about you but I am counting the days untill spring - 22 to be exact!

For new subscribers, in this weekly newsletter I share my top picks for the week - trends or particularly noteworthy design. Each week I share an interior, a real estate listing and a style item that I think are special. I hope you'll let me know what you think!

1] Handpicked: INTERIOR

If you haven't found her already, Kate Marker is a must-follow. This week I selected all of these interior photos from her Honeysuckle project, so you could see the consistency of her design throughout a whole house. You will notice a lot of the same color scheme, but she varies tones, texture and patterns. Her design is flawless, current and restrained, yet deeply innovative, warm and inviting.

I mean just look at the breadth of lighting choices - swoon! Kate Marker is a designer whom I consistently look to, especially for clients whose taste is more traditional. Some other favorites include her Elm Project and her adorable summer Airbnb in Michigan (be still my heart), the Leo Cottage.

2) Handpicked: REAL ESTATE

Gracious and welcoming like so many houses built in the 1900's, this house in Concord is in a prime location. I love this period for homes because the spaces are generous, the ceilings are high and the flow makes sense. I can see the whole house infused with some Kate Marker-inspired style (see above) - celebrating the elegant architecture yet infusing some contemporary style.

Look at all those gorgeous leaded glass windows! It won't take too much (ok, we need to pay some attention to the bathrooms) to breathe new life into this one...

3) Handpicked: STYLE

I've talked about zellige, but if you haven't already seen Tiles of Ezra, drop everything and take a peek. Handmade in Morocco and Vietnam, the beauty of their tiles is really the imperfections and irregularities. Everyone is looking for patinathese days - and these tiles bring history and character with them. And... they also do terrazzo. I just love how using a tile like this instantly gives a renovated space depth and history.

I hope you love these handpicked favorites! Have a great weekend and I'll chat with you next week!
